Last updated: November 2022

As you may have heard on the news, the UK energy market is currently under an immense amount of stress as a result of a global gas shortage driving up costs and putting several energy suppliers out of business. To learn more about this and stay updated on a daily basis you can read our page on the UK energy crisis.

Npower was (and still is known) as one of the UK’s best-known energy companies. Along with British Gas, Scottish Power, E.On, EDF and SSE. Prior to E.ON’s purchase, Npower along provided around 70% of our country’s electricity and 69% of our gas. With an impressive 3.6 million customers across the country, they were one of the biggest of the “Big 6”; along with a robust range of energy tariffs, NPower was among the biggest of the “Big 6”.

Npower Tariffs and Prices

Npower’s selection of tariffs were not quite as robust as even larger competitors like British Gas or Scottish Power. However, they had an eclectic range of tariffs that offers something for everyone. E.ON, on the other hand, has a robust range of tariffs that creates many options. Don’t be intimidated by the wide selection – research pays off and we at Switchplan are more than happy to help you navigate switching over to E.ON, or perhaps another provider should you decide that there is one that is a better fit. However, there is a lot of data here, and most of it will not be relevant to new prospective customers looking to see what Npower has to offer.

With that in mind, here we’ll provide a summary of all the tariffs that are available to new and existing customers. All unit rates are based on UK averages. Your rates may vary depending on where in the country you live. Estimates are based on the UK average consumption of 2,900 kWh of electricity and 12,000 kWh of gas per year.

E.ON tariffs compared: Which is the cheapest tariff in November 2022

As you can see below, E.ON has a vast arrange of tariffs. This supplier has both fixed and variables rates, as well as prepayment options. You can choose to have both your electricity and gas serviced by E.ON, or, you can choose to have E.ON supply one or the other.

E.ON does gear new clients towards their E.ON Next tariffs. It might seem like something different, but in face, these tariffs mirror exactly the current E.ON tariffs solely making the 100% renewability applicable to all tariffs. We will therefore compare these tariffs based on the E.ON Next advertised rates.

E.ON price changes 2021

E.ON announced, in August 2020 that they would cut prices to Ofgem’s revised price cap. As a result, E.ON’s standard variable tariff was reduced by about 7%. This might not seem so significant, but it reduced the average consumers bill by £84 annually. This price cut came into effect beginning of October 2020.

This is not the first time that E.ON has made a price cut. Price reductions have been seen mostly across the board, as in line with Ofgem’s price caps. Ofgem continues to change their price cap based on macro economic, as well as several other factors, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost all energy companies were required to drop their rates. As such, this means that E.ON cut their rates as well. Their rate cut thus makes them competitively priced within the market – which is great for consumers considering the wide range of tariffs they have on offer.

FAQ

Does Npower only offer the E.ON tariffs?

Yes, you are no longer able to receive Npower tariffs; as a new customer you can select E.ON or another provider for your energy needs. As a prior Npower (and current E.ON Next customer, if you haven’t switch providers) you will receive your legacy Npower tariffs, however, they are now E.ON Next tariffs.

What is Npower’s cheapest tariff?

We don’t know what Npower’s cheapest tariff is, since this information is no longer available online. However, we can provide information on E.ON Next’s cheapest tariff, which is their E.ON Energy Plan, a variable rate plan which has a £1,162.41 average annual cost. A close second is their E.ON Next 2 years plan, which is a 24 month fixed rate plan with an average annual cost of £1,162.89.

Please note that if you were an Npower customer, your tariff might differ from E.ON Next’s cheapest tariff. If you notice that yours is more expensive and are looking to save on energy, it might be worth calling E.ON to switch over to a cheaper tariff, or another energy supplier all together.

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your site? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images. Maybe you could space it out better?
