As one of the UKโs “Big 6”, SSE shares around 70% of the UK energy market with its peers British Gas, Scottish Power, N Power, E.On and EDF. But how do SSE tariffs stack up against other suppliers, both large and small? Here weโll take a comprehensive look at SSEโs tariffs to help you find the right one for your needs.
Last updated: February 2021
With 5 million customers across the UK and one of the highest customer service ratings of the “Big 6” energy suppliers, many of us rely on SSE for our gas and electricity. With roots that can be traced back to the late 1940s, SSE has long been one of Britainโs foremost green energy suppliers, and a major force in UK hydropower. SSE generates electricity as well as supplying it. Today, SSE offers 100% green electricity to both domestic and commercial customers. But do SSE tariffs give UK energy consumers the value for money that they deserve?
SSE Energy Tariffs and Prices
SSE have a goodly range of tariffs that cover a wide range of consumer needs, including tariffs for customers with prepayment meters, as well as customers with Economy 7 and even Economy 10 meters.
Whatโs more, their partnership with OVO gives them advantageous rates on other products such as fibre broadband as well as heating and boiler cover. There are even tariffs specifically for electric vehicle owners.
Letโs take a look in greater detail.
Please be aware that rates described are averaged out across the country. As such, your rates may vary slightly, depending on where in the UK you live. Rates described all include VAT at 5%.

SSE Energy tariffs compared: Which is the cheapest tariff?
In the table below, we compare the various tariffs offered by SSE and their estimated monthly and annual cost. To calculate this, we use the UK average annual consumption of 12,500 kWh for gas and 3,100kWh for electricity.
Tariff Name | Estimated Monthly Cost | Estimated Annual Cost |
---|---|---|
SSE Fix and Fibre v2 Bundle | ยฃ108.12 | ยฃ1,297.38 |
SSE Protect & Fix v2 Bundle | ยฃ94.75 | ยฃ1,137.03 |
SSE Standard Tariff | ยฃ89.71 | ยฃ1,076.48 |
SSE Fix & Drive v2 | ยฃ89.71 | ยฃ1,076.48 |
SSE 1 Year Fix v2 Tariff | ยฃ89.71 | ยฃ1,076.48 |
SSE 2 Year Fix v4 Tariff | ยฃ91.50 | ยฃ1,076.48 |
SSE Fix & Control v2 Tariff | ยฃ96.62 | ยฃ1,159.48 |
SSE “Evergreen” Prepay Tariff | ยฃ90.89 | ยฃ1,090.63 |
As we can see, using SSEโs estimates, all of the above tariffs actually exceed Ofgemโs Price Cap of ยฃ1,042 per year. The 12 month fixed rate tariff is almost identical in real terms to the variable standard tariff, although the SSE Protect & Fix v2 Bundle may offer better value for money as it offers fairly comprehensive heating cover for around ยฃ5 extra per month.
Please note that the top two are bundles that include other services, which is why costs are higher.
SSE Business Tariffs
