Click Energy in 2022: Prices, Reviews and Contact Details

Notice

Click Energy claims to be Northern Ireland’s friendliest and most transparent electricity company. It aims to be a provider of low-cost electricity through a choice of prepayment meters and through monthly direct debit. They have multiple typical tariffs as well as a rural saver tariff designed for use in non-urban areas. Click Energy currently only supplies electricity so you will need to find another energy supplier for your gas if you choose to switch.

We Consider Click Energy A Moderately Stable Supplier
As you may have heard on the news, the UK energy market is currently under an immense amount of stress putting several energy suppliers out of business. We have designated Click Energy as a moderate risk supplier right now, which means that they could face trouble if the UK energy crisis worsens much further. To learn more about this and stay updated you can read our page on the UK energy crisis.

While they may not offer gas, Click Energy does offer loyalty schemes that give its customers access to discounts from various brands and retailers. If having a smaller supplier that can still grant you benefits like discounts and loyalty points then maybe Click Energy is the best supplier for you. The article below contains all the information that you’ll need to make an informed decision regarding your energy supply.

Who is Click Energy and what do I need to know about them?

Click Energy is an electricity supplier based in Derry, Northern Ireland. It was founded in 2015 and remains one of the smaller suppliers in Northern Ireland with a market share of just 4%.

It was set up with the aim of creating a new type of energy provider that puts the customers in charge of their energy. According to Managing Director Damian Wilson, the goal was to become a: ‘New breed of electricity provider that would provide customers in Northern Ireland with excellent value, incredible customer service and clear billing’.

So, has Click Energy been able to achieve that aim? What kind of tariffs do they offer and how much do they cost? Do they offer smart meters and should you consider switching? We will try and answer all of these questions and more below.

Is Click Energy any good?

Click Energy is a very small supplier based entirely in Northern Ireland. They have fewer than 30,000 customers and as such, there is little information about the quality of their service. They were too small to qualify for the annual Which? survey into UK energy companies in the last few years, so received no ranking in this respect.

However, back in 2017 Which? did name Click the top electricity supplier in Northern Ireland with an overall customer satisfaction score of 84%. It gained top marks for bill clarity and accuracy and nearly two-thirds voted it as being good value for money. It seemed this new supplier was doing everything right. But in the absence of any new data over the last few years, it is hard to know if customers are still satisfied.

However, Click Energy did less well on Trustpilot. It has a score of just 2.1 but this is only from 12 reviews. 58% of people rated their service as bad with only 8% for good and 8% for excellent.

In the Consumer Council NI’s survey of 2018 Click Energy only received a 55% satisfaction rate. This has improved to 75% by the following year, which was the highest percentage achieved amongst the five suppliers in Northern Ireland.

The main plus points of using Click Energy are:

  • Easy to switch to the provider
  • Commitment to green energy

However, there are some drawbacks too. These include:

  • Frequent price hikes
  • Rude customer service
  • Issues with the top up service

What are Click Energy’s Electricity Plans?

Click Energy claim to be Northern Ireland’s greenest energy supplier and say they want to help all their customers go green too. That means as of January 2020, all of their electricity comes from renewable sources. That’s 100% and far above the national average of 32.8%. They use a mix of biomass, wind and solar to provide energy to their 30,000 customers and all new customers will be placed on green versions of their tariffs at no extra charge.

How to contact Click Energy

There are several ways to contact Click Energy. These include the following:

Is Click Energy cheap?

The Bill Pay 24 Hour Standard will cost around £608 a year according to average use statistics in the UK. Remember that Click Energy currently only supplies electricity so you will need to find another supplier for your gas if you choose to switch.

This makes it currently the most expensive provider of electricity in Northern Ireland. According to average use statistics on the standard tariff, you would be paying the following with other electricity companies:

  1. Budget Energy – £601
  2. Power NI – £600
  3. Electric Ireland – £587
  4. CE Airtricity – £581

Do Click Energy have prepayment meters?

Click Energy has a number of tariffs that can be used with a prepayment meter. If you have a prepayment tariff, there are a number of ways to top up. These include online, over the phone and in a PayPoint store.

Click also lets you top up a minimum of £5, which is useful if you are short on cash or trying to limit your energy consumption.

Click Energy customer reviews

Price hikes were a particular bone of contention with Click Energy customers. Although it was named the best energy supplier in Northern Ireland in 2017, it has been through some serious ups and downs since then.

Negative reviews on Trustpilot and a customer base too small to make any further impact on Which? have hindered its growth and left some customers unhappy. For an energy supplier that set out to do things differently and put the customer in charge of their own supply, this is not ideal.

More info

Just 61% of their customers would recommend switching to their services. This is far from the worst score in the industry but it does mean that nearly half of all customers are not convinced switching would be a good idea.

Negative comments really do focus on the price increases. It seems that some customers were not informed about price hikes in October 2019 which made Click more expensive than some other providers. There were also some issues around topping up and some customer service issues reported.

How many customers do Click Energy have?

Click Energy is a very small supplier, providing electricity for around 4% of total customers in Northern Ireland. That means they have a customer base of around 28,000.
