Together Energy customers transferred to British Gas. What are the effects on tariffs?

Notice

Quite quickly in 2022, Together Energy has announced that they are unable to continue doing business. Incumbent clients will be automatically switched to British Gas by Ofgem. Together Energy could not withstand the UK energy crisis, unfortunately. The high wholesale prices for gas and electricity have rendered them unable to remain profitable.

British Gas also offers several options for fixed rates, prepayment rates and also Economy 7 rates. You can find an overview here to see fixed rates, prepayment energy rates and economy 7 rates of British gas.

Can I switch suppliers right now?

You are always free to switch suppliers. However, the current circumstances in the energy market do not make it the best time to switch. The chances of finding lower rates are slim.

Do I have to stay with British Gas?

You do not have to stay, however, ever-rising gas and electricity prices make switching less attractive. It would be difficult to find a deal that will save money. Also British Gas is one of the more stable suppliers at the moment, you can be pretty sure that they will remain in business for the foreseeable future.

What happens if I was in the process of switching suppliers when Together Energy went bust?

It should not influence your switching process. Everything should be handled automatically normally.
