Scottish Power needs no introduction for most energy consumers in the UK. It is one of the best known of the “Big 6” energy supplier, bringing energy to over 5.2 million homes around the country. Scottish Power doesn’t just supply energy to domestic and commercial customers, it generates it, too. Scottish Power is part of the Iberdrola Group which operates over 40 on and offshore windfarms around the UK, generating over 2,000 MW of renewable energy. However, while there’s much to commend Scottish Power, their reputation for customer service is somewhat less than stellar.

Like most energy suppliers keen to stay in touch with their customers (and prospective customers) Scottish Power has a robust presence on various social media platforms.

You can find the brand on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even on LinkedIn.

At present, these online accounts are a useful way to keep up with how Scottish Power are implementing changes in order to support customers who are affected by COVID-19, as well as sharing useful resources like FAQs. Scottish Power has also posted their opening hours over the festive season on their Facebook page. The brand is more active on Twitter, however, where it provides more regular posts pertaining to its renewability and community endeavours. Customers can also send their enquiries to the brand via Direct Message. However, this may not be the quickest way to get a response.

Managing your Scottish Power account online

In order to minimise wait times for customers who need help with basic account management, Scottish Power have an online portal through which customers can manage their online accounts. If you are already a Scottish Power customer, using this service may be a quicker and easier way to get what you need. It may be more satisfying to use this service than waiting for a customer service agent to answer the phone or respond to your Direct Message or web chat enquiry.

You can login to your online portal here. From their online portal, customers can:

  • Enter your meter readings
  • Manage and adjust direct debit
  • View and download previous energy bills
  • Track your energy usage, and more.

General Enquiries

For general enquiries, the easiest way to get a response from Scottish Power is either over the phone or via the online chat function on their website’s Contact page. The customer service number for Scottish Power is 0330 102 7517.

Their contact centres are open between 8.30am until 7pm Monday to Friday, and 8.30am until 1pm on Saturdays.

Despite the human resource implications of the pandemic, Scottish Power has actually made great strides in its inbound customer service over the phone. Indeed, an independent survey earlier this year demonstrated significant improvements in waiting times.

In 2019, Scottish Power was one of the slowest suppliers to respond to phone calls with median average waiting times of 21 minutes and 24 seconds. This year, however, that waiting time was dramatically reduced to just 2 minutes and 28 seconds. Online chat was even faster, with an average 40 seconds’ response time.

If your query is less urgent, you can email contactus@scottishpower.com. The team endeavours to answer all email queries within 48 hours.
