Like all energy companies in the UK, E.ON regularly updates its prices and tariffs. These changes are made as a reaction to fluctuations in wholesale fuel prices and to other outside influences. As small changes to the unit price of energy can have a big impact on your bill, it’s well worth keeping an eye on these 2021 E.On tariffs changes. Especially since we are on the brink of a major change with the smooth transition from E.ON tariffs to E.ON Next 100% renewable tariffs.
Last update: April 2022
We Consider This A Stable Supplier
As you may have heard on the news, the UK energy market is currently under an immense amount of stress as a result of a global gas shortage driving up costs and putting several energy suppliers out of business. To learn more about this and stay updated on a daily basis you can read our page on the UK energy crisis.
If your current supplier is not to your liking, we can change that! By giving our experts a call at the number above, they can help you switch energy suppliers in under 20 minutes.
What is E.ON Next?
E.ON Next is the new face of the E.ON group. A new brand within the E.ON portfolio who’s is committed to play its part the transition to a renewable energy world. Indeed all E.ON Next tariff offer 100% renewable electricity and one of their tariffs also offers 100% carbon offset gas.
Obviously current E.ON customers will remain on their E.ON energy plan under the current conditions. Nevertheless E.ON will start encouraging new clients to switch directly to an E.ON Next tariff. Little by little, this will lead to an expansion of the E.ON Next brand.
Can I still subscribe to an E.ON Plan
As of today, when you request a quote on the E.ON website you are automatically redirected to the E.ON Next website. This proves the will to set up E.ON Next as the future of the E.ON group.
Nevertheless you can still switch to an E.ON tariff by calling the commercial teams.
Has npower changed to EON Next?
In 2018 E.ON acquired npower due to a swap of assets between the brands respective German parents Innogy and E.ON. Over the coming weeks all npower customers are gradually being moved over to become customers of this new E.ON Next brand.
Not much will change as both the npower teams and the E.ON Next energy specialists are there to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. This transition has an impact on several brands of the group such as Powershop or Sainbury’s Energy.
E.ON tariffs compared: Which is the cheapest tariff in April 2022
Like all of the big six energy companies in the UK, E.ON offers a wide choice of tariffs. The supplier has both fixed and variable rate deals available as well as prepayment deals. Also you can opt to get both your gas and electricity from the supplier or go for a single fuel deal.
As we mentioned earlier, E.ON now encourages new clients to switch to their E.ON Next tariffs. But don’t worry, these tariffs mirror exactly the current E.ON tariffs solely making the 100% renewability applicable to all tariffs. We will therefore compare these tariffs based on the E.ON Next advertised rates.
As you probably know, the exact cost of energy will vary depending on the day and where you are in the UK. This can make it hard to compare prices without uploading your personal data. To give you an accurate idea, we picked a specific location in the UK and calculated the average annual cost of all E.ON tariffs there.
Below you can find the cost information associated with these tariffs.

E.ON price changes 2021
In August 2020, E.ON announced that it would be cutting its prices in line with Ofgem’s revised price cap. The cost of the company’s standard variable tariff was cut by around 7%. This reduced the average customer’s annual bill by £84 to around £1,042. This price cut came into effect on 1st October 2020.
This was the second price cut E.ON made in 2020. Earlier in the year the supplier had cut its variable rate by 1% in order to bring it in line with Ofgem’s previous price cap decrease. This price cut came into effect at the beginning of February 2020.
Since them it reverted back to a higher price in reaction to the increase of that same Price Cap and the associated wholesale costs.
These price reductions were seen more or less across the board, with all of the big six, and a number of smaller energy companies, reducing their tariffs by the same amount. As almost all energy companies were required to drop their prices in response to , it means that E.ON tariffs remained comparable with others available on the market.
